Littlest, Yellowest, Differentest

The tumblrblog of my blog. Seriously, can we buy a vowel, here? This is ridiculous.

Losing the "personal"

I know a lot of people make fun of personal bloggers because they talk too much about themselves. Like, who would really want to know about your family, or what you had for dinner. Blog entries about personal struggles or personal successes are sometimes mocked as being too navel-gazing and narcissistic.

Well you know what? I am beginning to dislike personal blogs that DON’T have these sorts of entries. I really don’t care what you think of a particular album, or a movie, or a video game. Okay, I do care somewhat, and I’ll admit to writing reviews on my own blog too. But what I would REALLY care about, is knowing more about YOU. How was your day? Did you finally ask that girl out? Where do you see your career going? How is it like being a father/mother? Call me voyeuristic if you must, but it’s these sort of details that MAKE a blog PERSONAL. Otherwise, it’s really not a personal blog.

Or maybe I’m being too angsty and LiveJournaly about it. — nicolelee

This is true.  Between you and me, I’ve been nominated to judge some blogs for a major public contest - I can’t say where on the record - and a lot of the nominations I’ve gotten for blogs have been as marketing tools for childrens movies or techcrunch clones.  I long for the days to see some evidence of a good old fashioned private-but-not-private piece of internet identity.
